What I'm drinking this week.. Anthony's Gin and Tonic

We couldn't have asked for a better start to summer; mild temperatures, cool breezes, living grass; but in standard DC fashion, the heat has picked up calling for a drink that cools us down... and of-course has enough kick to knock us down: the icy gin and tonic:

Use six -to - eight ounce bottles of tonic (larger ones go flat faster). Go big with ice cubes (large cubes melt slower: water = a stiff drinks enemy). Fill two eight-ounce glasses three-quarters full with ice. Pour two onces of gin over ice in each glass. Top each with about two ounces of tonic water. Twist the peel over the ice to release its oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass. Drop in a few juniper berreis and, holding your thumb over the opening of the gin bottle, pour a thin layer of gin on top.

Serves two:
4 ounces top-quality gin, plus a bit more
4 ounces top-quality tonic water
2 strips lemon peel
1 teaspoon dried juniper berries
